Borrowing and Circulation

Students, faculty and staff of Indiana University, persons affiliated with Indiana University, residents of the State of Indiana, CIC Scholars, and OCLC Scholars may borrow or check out library materials. (More information about library cards) Most libraries in the IU Bloomington Library system have the same basic policies for book checkout and renewal.  Individual libraries maintain some special collections.

Instructional Materials

Class handouts and activities introduce concepts and processes central to scholarly research and information use. Instructional activities facilitate critical use of research tools and information.

Instructional Consulting

Teaching & Learning librarians are available to consult with departments or individual faculty, instructors, and librarians to discuss the integration of research knowledge and informed literacy into courses and assignments. Instructional consultations may also be referred to a subject librarian, when appropriate. This instructional support service is being offered in order to create a sustainable, meaningful approach to developing information literacy experiences at IUB. Consultations can happen anytime during the year, but are most effective if timed to occur prior to the launch of a course. Consult with a librarian to:

  • Plan a librarian-led instruction session or course-integrated learning activity
  • Develop or revise an assignment
  • Integrate research and information skills into a course or program
  • Plan the development of an online Course Guide
  • Create tools to assess student learning

Course Guides

Course Guides provide instructional materials about the research process and connect students with relevant library resources and services. A librarian will work with you to create a guide that corresponds to your class's learning objectives and assignments.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The IUB Libraries will try to get materials from other libraries for you if we do not own what you are looking for.  Any current faculty, staff, or student may use our free ILL service.

Use the ILL service for articles not owned on the Bloomington campus and for books not owned by any IU library.

To use this service, submit a request giving us as much information as you can.  First time users will be asked for some registration information.

To have books owned by an IU library delivered to a campus library near you, use Request Delivery.  To have articles owned only in print on the Bloomington campus delivered to you, use Request Article Delivery

See Document Delivery Services for more information.
