Support for the study of religion has been consistent at Indiana University from its founding in 1820 to the present. The department of Religious Studies at Indiana University Bloomington was among the first in this country. The Library's collections reflect this early start in the field, with very strong collections in Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism, and rapidly growing collections in Hinduism, and other religions.
