Herman B Wells Library Guild

Herman Wells with bookIn June 2005, the Trustees of Indiana University honored the late Herman B Wells by naming the university's main library in his memory.

The Herman B Wells Library is more than a Bloomington landmark. It is the intellectual center of campus. Every day students gather there to work and study. IU faculty members also rely on the world-class collections to generate new knowledge.

Naming the building in honor of Dr. Wells was a fitting tribute. Collections at the Bloomington libraries grew sixfold during his tenure as president. And yet, when asked what he might have done differently, Dr. Wells replied: "Well, I suppose if I were to do it over again, I would put more money in the library collection."

By contributing $250 or more to the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries annual fund, you become a member of the Herman B Wells Library Guild. You join others who recognize, as Dr. Wells did, that the strength of a university lies in the strength of its libraries. This annual fund provides essential flexibility, allowing the dean of the IUB Libraries to take advantage of unexpected opportunities as they arise.
