How to Give

You can give to the Libraries in many ways

Your gift can support any aspect or area of IU Libraries you like. All gifts to IU Libraries are made through the IU Foundation, the official fundraising arm of Indiana University.

Gifts of Cash

The most common type of gift is the gift of cash. It is simple, straightforward, and as easy as writing a check or submitting a credit card online. You may make an online donation by using the "give now" link below.

Or, you may mail your gift to:

Gifts of Appreciated Property (Securities)

Charitable gifts of appreciated property -- whether real estate or capital gain securities -- can provide even greater tax benefits than a cash gift of equal value. Please call the Advancement Office at (812) 856-4746 to discuss these benefits or to arrange a transfer.

Gifts of Books

The IU Libraries welcome gifts of books and other materials that strengthen the collections and support the instructional and research programs of the university. Past and present donors have added immeasurably to these activities.

Gifts are accepted with the understanding that they become the property of Indiana University upon receipt, and that the IU Libraries will make all necessary decisions as to their retention, location, cataloging treatment, and other considerations relating to their use and disposition. It is the responsibility of collection managers to review donations and make selection decisions based on the IU Libraries' collection development policy.

Outdated textbooks, superceded editions, duplicate copies, items in poor physical condition, and scattered issues of periodicals are usually not appropriate for the collection. Materials not suitable for the collections may be exchanged with other libraries or otherwise used for the university's benefit and goodwill in accordance with establish procedures of the Indiana University Purchasing Department, the IU Libraries, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Anyone interested in making a gift to the IU Libraries should contact the appropriate collections manager or the IU Libraries Office of Advancement at (812) 856-4746.

Planned Giving

The Theophilus Adam Wylie Heritage Society, named for the first vice president of Indiana University who was also librarian for 38 years, recognizes alumni and friends who name the IU Foundation as the beneficiary of a planned gift for the IU Libraries. Donors who make their giving intentions known by participating in this society ensure that gifts are used exclusively as the donor intends, and they allow the Libraries to design and implement strategies with the assurance that the funds will be available.

Planned gifts include:

  • Bequests through wills or trusts;
  • Charitable life income plans, including charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities and participation in the IU Foundation's pooled income fund;
  • Charitable lead trusts;
  • Gifts of property subject to life estate; and
  • Gifts of life insurance.

Please call the IU Libraries Advancement Office at (812) 856-4746 to discuss planned giving options to benefit IU students and faculty.
